Code of Ethics

Current Genetic Screenings Required at Foggy Bottom Farm Golden Retrievers:
(as recommended by the Breeders Code of Ethics of the Golden Retriever Club of America)

HIPS -- Our dogs have had their hip x-rays submitted to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for review by the OFA's panel of board certified radiologists, and their hips are then registered to be free of genetic hip dysplasia.

HEARTS -- They also have their hearts examined by a board certified veterinary cardiologist and are certified to be free of hereditary sub-aortic stenosis. This certification is also registered in the OFA's cardiac registry service (SAS).

EYES -- Our dogs also undergo an annual eye exam performed by a board certified veterinary ophthalmologist, following the exam procedure recommended by the Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF). This exam is performed to rule out hereditary eye diseases in the dogs used in our breeding program.

ELBOWS -- As with hips, our dogs have had their elbow x-rays submitted to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for review by the OFA's panel of board certified radiologists, and their elbows are then registered to be free of genetic elbow dysplasia.
